Summers in Corfu are dry, and many homes, gardens and holiday lets depend on stored water from tanks, cisterns or wells, sometimes because the mains supply is unreliable. A buried tank keeps the water cool, out of sight and out of the way, and it can be filled from the mains, a delivery or rainwater from the roof.

We dig the pit for a plastic or concrete tank to the size and depth you or your supplier specify, with a firm level base, and cut the trenches to and from the house, the pump and the roof gutters. After the tank is in, we backfill in layers and restore the ground.

An empty buried tank can float in wet ground, so the installer may need to anchor it and follow a set backfill order. A tank pit is also a good moment to plan drainage and overflow. For the pipes, see trenching.

How the job works

1. Size and position

   Tell us the tank size and where it goes, and check the supplier's instructions for the pit.

2. Dig the pit

   We dig to depth and size with room around the tank and a level base.

3. Set the tank

   The installer places and connects the tank. We may dig the pipe trenches meanwhile.

4. Backfill and restore

   We backfill in layers around the tank and restore the ground above.
