A good garden starts with the soil

Wild ground is rarely ready to plant. It is full of roots, stones, weeds and compacted soil. A day with the rotavator turns that into fine, loose soil that is ready for seed, turf, beds or trees.

We clear and till with the compact tractor and a rotavator: first the weeds and roots, then the tilling to the right depth, then levelling and raking to a finish. We can remove large stones and old roots, mix in compost or topsoil that you provide or that we bring, and shape raised beds or planting rows.

Timing matters. Tilling is best when the ground is moist but not soaking, so we watch the weather. If your plot is overgrown, plot clearing comes first; if there are old stumps, stump removal; if the ground is uneven, levelling.

How the job works

1. Look at the ground

   We check soil, stones, weeds and slope, and agree what the ground is for.

2. Clear

   Weeds, roots and large stones are removed, and any levelling is done.

3. Till

   The rotavator breaks up and loosens the soil, mixing in any added compost or topsoil.

4. Finish

   We level and rake, shape any beds, and leave the ground ready for planting or turf.
