Foundation excavation in Corfu

Dug to the plan, not near it

A foundation starts with an accurate hole. Whether it is a new house, an extension, a garage, a retaining wall or a terrace, the excavation has to match your engineer's drawings: the right level, the right width and a solid bottom.

We excavate with a mini excavator that fits into small plots and narrow access, working from the levels and setting-out your engineer or builder gives us. We keep the topsoil separate, clean the bottom of the excavation and keep the spoil where it will not get in the way of the concrete crew.

Corfu's plots range from soft soil to solid rock, often within a few metres of each other. If we hit rock or water, we stop and tell you, so you can decide how to proceed with your engineer. We can also haul away the excess soil and rubble and prepare the site beforehand, see land levelling.

How the job works

1. Plans and setting-out

   We get the drawings and levels from your engineer or builder and see the site markings.

2. Strip and dig

   We strip the topsoil, then dig to depth and width, checking levels as we go.

3. Trim and hand over

   We clean the bottom and hand over to the concrete crew or the engineer for inspection.

4. Backfill and clear

   After the concrete, we backfill in layers and remove or spread the surplus soil.
