Septic tank & cesspit excavation in Corfu

The dig behind a working septic system

Homes in Corfu that are not connected to a municipal sewer rely on a septic tank or cesspit, called a 'vothros' in Greek. Before any tank goes in, someone has to dig the pit and the pipe run to the exact size, depth and slope, with a stable base and access for the emptying tanker.

We do that digging with a mini excavator: the tank pit, the trench from the house, the soakaway or absorption trench where your design calls for one, and the backfill once the tank is set. The tank itself, its connection and the design belong to your plumber, supplier or engineer, and the size, position and distances from wells, boundaries and buildings come from them and from the local rules. We dig to their plan.

How the job works

1. Design and position

   You, your plumber or your engineer give us the tank size, position and levels. We check access for the excavator and for the emptying tanker.

2. Dig the pit and trench

   We excavate the pit and the pipe trench to depth and fall, with a firm, level base.

3. Tank and pipes installed

   Your installer sets the tank and connects the pipes. We wait, or come back for the backfill.

4. Backfill and finish

   We backfill around the tank in layers as specified, restore the ground and remove surplus soil.
